Why Canada × Indo-Pacific, Why Now?

Canada can and should do more in the Indo-Pacific

As many of you know, I’ve launched my own consulting business focused on defence and dual-use technologies in Canada and the Indo-Pacific. More on that soon.

Given how complex and dynamic the region is, and that I’m based here in Singapore I’ve decided to start a bi-weekly update for clients and friends that are trying to stay on top of what’s going on in this part of the world called Canada x Indo-Pacific. Why? Canada can, and should play a bigger role here.

Just over the last few weeks we’ve seen lots of developments whether that was China’s 80^th Victory Day Parade earlier in September which featured the nuclear triad, hypersonic antiship missiles, unmanned systems and ‘information support’ units, or; Canada’s announcement that South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean has been downselected for the Canadian Patrol Submarine Program (CPSP) marking a major procurement decision. My friend Jonathan Berkshire Miller covered Canada’s new MOU on defence cooperation with Indonesia, and we’ve seen protests in Nepal, and strife and unrest in Indonesia, and Bangladesh.

The next edition will cover topics like this, major exercises, partnerships, technology developments etc.
